The Yin and Yang of Yoga
Hatha yoga is probably the oldest form of modern /western yoga as we know it. Hatha means the forceful yoga and was primarily designed to strengthen the body and prepare it for other forms of yoga. Today we mostly know Hatha for the practice that makes us healthier and calmer!
The original forms of Hatha Yoga equally emphasised strong muscular activities which can be characterised as Yang practices, and the softer activities that open our deeper tissues such as joints which can be characterised as Yin practices.
Most forms of yoga today are dynamic, active practices designed to work only half of our body, the muscular half, the “yang” tissues.
Yin Yoga allows us to work the other half, the deeper “yin” tissues of our ligaments, joints, deep fascial networks and even our bones. Practice both and you can achieve optimal health and vitality.
How you practice is as important as what you practice and the benefits you enjoy will depend greatly on your intentions when you practice.
Yin Yoga is yielding, allowing and nourishing.
Even within an active , sweaty yang practice we can adopt a yin sensitivity that will help us gain much more from our yoga practice.
Yin Yoga is simple, but simple does not mean easy. We can remain in postures from 1 -20 minutes!
After you have experienced this, even just once, you will realise that you have been doing only half of the asana practice.
Yin yoga provides physical, mental, emotional and energetic benefits -and for some spiritual.

Body Mind and Spirit
A lovely way to spend an afternoon. Very relaxing and a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a longer practice. Claire is very patient and explains every move clearly. Caroline Hall
Claire’s Sunday workshops are a treasure! She is warm and welcoming and there is gentle guidance regarding modifications of postures if required. I have particularly enjoyed the extra time to practice breath work and the ‘silent’ break inviting in mindfulness .
Claire's yoga workshops will benefit you both externally and internally. With a focus on calming the mind and body through breathing techniques and some meditation this helps the individual move mindfully into, and control, the yoga postures and flows. Claire prepares carefully balanced workshops that various levels of yoga practitioners will benefit from. With a well deserved relaxation session at the end I always leave feeling I have worked my whole body, but thoroughly relaxed my mind too. Come and join in an experience that's great for your wellbeing."
I love going to the workshops on Sunday . I find it is time for myself and at first I thought it would be too long . But actually it goes so quickly and I feel my practice has improved a lot. I love the structure and the quite break. I strongly recommend this workshop. No matter what level you are at . You will get something out of it
