Adult Yoga Classes in West Lothian
What is Yoga?
Yoga is a branch of Indian philosophy. The Sanskrit word "Yoga" has many meanings among which is to "yoke" or "unite", referring to the union of the individual self with the universal consciousness (or absolute) -
Bringing mind, body and senses in to balance .
Yoga also describes the union of the physical body with the mind and spirit and improves our overall health and well-being. By keeping ourselves in balance we can stride through life with greater confidence and ease.
Put this in to practice at any of our yoga classes. Our classes combine Asana (yoga postures), Pranayama (breathing practices) and relaxation.
The postures flow from one to another, moving energy through the different parts of the body, helping clear any tensions and energy blocks. Classes always finish with a variation of Yoga Nidra, yogic sleep. A powerful technique in which you learn to relax, consciously inducing complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation.
Classes are suitable for all levels as modifications are included for the more advanced postures.
Classes with Maxine, Joy and Claire.
3 - 8 years
Young children practicing yoga have no preconceived ideas of what the practice involves. Yoga to them is just exercise driven fun. Back bends, twists, forward bends, standing postures, inversions and relaxation are woven into stories and songs that capture the imagination.
8 - 12 years
Classes can be tailored to the school curriculum. Themes can include the Romans, the Vikings,
the Egyptians, the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games. The posture work maintains their natural flexibility which can begin to change from a surprisingly young age. The children practice concentration exercises on sound, breath or even the times tables. Every class includes a relaxation to help them find a quiet peaceful place inside themselves, giving them confidence to be calm and settled
